Welcome

Welcome to Egg and Death Journal. The name comes from the novel The Egg and I about a couple who moved to the Olympic Peninsula and started a chicken farm. Operating with little capital and few resources, the author used a single ledger to keep records of both egg production and chicken attrition. What does that have to do with this blog? Not a whole lot. They're both journals I suppose.

Hail Damage from Aug. 9, 2012 Hail Storm

The photos below are higher resolution and can be clicked to zoom in on.

The wind had to be blowing pretty hard to do this.

The corn crop was already in pretty bad shape from the drought of '12.  But not this bad.

3" diameter hail has a terminal velocity of around 110 MPH

The vinyl siding was no match for the hail stones but the metal roof put up a good fight.  No hull breaches but plenty of battle damage, dents, popped rivets, etc.

The alleged culprit.
