Welcome

Welcome to Egg and Death Journal. The name comes from the novel The Egg and I about a couple who moved to the Olympic Peninsula and started a chicken farm. Operating with little capital and few resources, the author used a single ledger to keep records of both egg production and chicken attrition. What does that have to do with this blog? Not a whole lot. They're both journals I suppose.

Ghost Tree on Aqua Lane

This tree was struck by lightning not a quarter mile from our house last year.  The bolt traveled through an underground utility conduit to our house and blew out a wireless router and damaged a computer.  Don't stand near trees during storms.

And More Barns

These may be enlargened by clicking on them individually and then clicking again to zoom in.

This is my Great Grandfather's barn which still stands today.  The silo is gone though.  It then became my Grandfather's barn which all of us grandchildren played in.  My mother got up every morning and trudged across the pasture in all kinds of weather to help milk the cows in here.  Same thing in the evening after school.  I can still hear the sound of the wind blowing through the high timbers and the cooing of pigeons in the otherwise quietness of the dim light and dusty sunbeams.  I can smell the fresh silage that went into the silo to feed the cattle.  This photo was taken in 1912.  The last time I was in this barn was probably around 1958 or so.  It no longer belongs to the family.
